Summer School for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in Magdeburg

This year, the German Society for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU) is once again offering a special opportunity for medical students in cooperation with the Professional Association for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (BVOU): The DGOU and BVOU Summer School. From around 200 applicants, 30 outstanding students from all over Germany from the 5th semester onwards were selected to receive a scholarship to attend the Summer School. Among the scholarship holders are five students from Magdeburg University Medical Centre.

This year's Summer School will be held from 21 to 23 August 2024 by the Orthopaedic University Hospital Magdeburg under the direction of Prof. Dr Christoph Lohmann, Incoming President of the German Society for Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Surgery, on the campus of the Medical Faculty of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Together with Prof. Dr Ulrich Stöckle, Managing Director of the Centre for Musculoskeletal Surgery at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Dr Stefan Middeldorf, Chief Physician at the Orthopaedics Specialist Centre at the Schön Klinik Bad Staffelstein, Prof. Dr Lohmann will be responsible for the scientific management of the event.

"The Summer School not only promotes specialist training, but also networking and dialogue between prospective and established specialists. In this way, the next generation of specialists in the exciting and diverse field of orthopaedics and trauma surgery is strengthened in the long term. The participants gain insights into the daily work and can make valuable contacts," explains Prof Lohmann.

The Summer School programme offers participating students a comprehensive and practical introduction to the specialist field of orthopaedics and trauma surgery. Highlights include workshops on arthroscopy, endoprosthetics, shock room management and performance diagnostics as well as a course where osteosynthesis can be practised. Topics such as conservative therapy, diagnostics and sports medicine will also be focussed on. Discussion rounds on professional prospects and careers in orthopaedics and trauma surgery round off the programme.
